The Super Visa
What is so 'Super' about this!
When you immigrate to Canada, you may not want to be alone. As a family-first country, Canada values reuniting parents with their grown children. Canadian immigration policy emphasizes family reunification as one of its major pillars. One way to achieve this is through Canada's Super Visa program. Visitors from abroad typically receive a visitor visa that allows them to stay in Canada for up to six months, but if they wish to extend their stay, they must apply for an extension. A Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to visit Canada for up to two consecutive years on their first visit. They can extend their stay for an additional year at a time without having to apply for a new visa. Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. A super visa is a temporary visitor permit that allows parents and grandparents to stay temporarily in Canada. The new parental sponsorship program will allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to live permanently in Canada. Family reunification is made easier with the Super Visas for Parents and Grandparents, which can be completed in as little as eight weeks
Who is Eligible for Super Visa?
The Super Visa is open to applicants who are either the parents or grandparents of a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident; children of either parent or grandparent are not eligible for the Super Visa (whereas they would be eligible under the federal Family Class Sponsor Visa). There are a couple of conditions that must be met in order to apply for the Super Visa:
How to Apply?
Depending on conditions, a stay may be restricted to a particular duration of time. Citizens of certain countries might also have to provide biometric information in order to confirm identity, to review past criminal histories, or to resolve previous challenges with Canadian immigration.
