Educational Credentials Assessment
The Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is an important document needed for most immigration programs in Canada, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Project, and the Provincial Nomination Program. Depending on your occupation, you may also need an ECA to study or to work in Canada. You will also need the proper licensing or certification to work in Canada if your occupation is regulated in the province where you intend to live.
An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is an assessment of your degree, diploma, or certificate compared to Canadian standards of education. Since an ECA is used to compare your education with its Canadian equivalent, you do not need an ECA if you obtained your education in Canada. If you have more than one post-secondary degree, you usually only need to have your highest degree assessed. Once you're in the pool, you will want to make sure you claim as many CRS points as possible, you should get all of your credentials assessed.
You worked hard for your credentials and that’s why it’s important to get them recognized. An ECA verifies that your education is valid and up to Canadian standards and lets immigration officials and future employers know where you stand.
